A design by Canadian architect Paul Raff, this modern eco friendly home in Toronto sits nestled among mature trees and traditional homes in the aptly called Forest Hill neighborhood. In this high-end community, Cascade House stands apart from the crowd equally for its elegance and grace, and its eco friendly design and construction. Behind the walls, the modern home blends a high-performance building envelope with passive solar technologies that minimize its ecological impact. Set on a sloped lot, the 352m2 house is situated on a strict Cartesian axis to take advantage of natural daylight. A south-facing glazed facade absorbs sun to heat the house during the cold white winters north of the border. From street side, the house features a striking glass privacy screen constructed of 475 vertically stacked panels, cascading like a waterfall in a contemporary corrugated effect. As the sun travels across the sky, its rays hit and reflect through the glass at different angles for an ever-changing spectrum of color and shape.
